Complete QA/QC
for Precast Products

Precast concrete products — panels, segments, beams, piles and slabs — must meet strict dimensional, structural and material specifications before leaving the casting yard. Defects undetected at manufacture become costly failures in the field. Our non-destructive testing programmes verify conformance without coring, cutting or compromising the product.

We deploy GPR, ultrasonic testing and Schmidt hammer strength assessment together to build a complete picture of each element — from cover depth and rebar positioning through to internal voids, honeycombing, segregation and steel fibre distribution. Every result is traceable to the as-designed specification and presented in clear, actionable reports.

Our capability extends to steel reinforced and steel fibre reinforced concrete, addressing the specific QA challenges of distribution uniformity, clustering and segregation that are unique to precast production environments.

What We Assess
1
Strength & material quality
Compressive strength (MPa), ultrasonic pulse velocity for quality grading, wall-thickness measurement
2
Reinforcement & embedments
Rebar position and spacing, tendon ducts, cladding tubes, cover depth measurement and discrepancy flagging
3
Internal defects
Voids, honeycombing, misruns, crack depth and extent — detected without cutting or coring
4
Steel fibre distribution
Fibre distribution uniformity, clustering and segregation in steel fibre reinforced precast panels
5
As-built verification
Dimensional checks and as-built audits against design documentation — consistency and discrepancy reporting

Confidence in Every
Precast Element

Precast concrete products leave the yard with quality locked in — there is no opportunity for remediation once a panel, beam or segment is installed. Non-destructive testing at the point of production provides objective, defensible evidence that elements conform to design intent before they are dispatched or lifted into place.

We deliver complete QA/QC assessments combining GPR scanning, compressive strength testing, ultrasonic evaluation and visual inspection — providing a multi-technique picture of concrete quality that no single method can achieve alone. From distribution of steel fibre reinforcement to detecting segregation, honeycombing and cover discrepancies, our assessments address the full range of defect and conformance checks required for critical precast elements.

We also work within steel reinforced concrete assessment, addressing the key challenges from rebar distribution and cover to segregation problems in production environments.

Defects caught at the yard cost orders of magnitude less than defects discovered after installation. QA/QC testing protects manufacturers, contractors and clients alike.

Assessment Workflow
1
Design review & scope definition
As-designed drawings reviewed; test locations, grid spacing and acceptance criteria agreed with client prior to mobilisation
2
Non-destructive field testing
GPR scanning, Schmidt hammer MPa, ultrasonic velocity and cover measurement conducted systematically across each element
3
Data processing & imaging
GPR radargrams processed to 2D/3D images; MPa data statistically summarised; defect locations and cover maps generated
4
As-built conformance audit
Measured results compared against design dimensions, specified cover and minimum strength — discrepancies flagged with supporting evidence
5
Customised QC report
Comprehensive report with annotated imagery, statistical summaries, defect maps and accept/reject recommendations per element

What We
Test & Audit

Our precast QA/QC programmes cover the complete range of internal and surface quality parameters — from structural integrity and reinforcement conformance through to subtle defects that affect long-term durability.

Each assessment is designed around your specific element type — whether tunnel segments, bridge beams, precast panels, pipes or architectural cladding — with customised testing protocols, acceptance criteria and documentation to suit your project or quality management system.

  • Production-line QC audits for precast manufacturers
  • Third-party acceptance testing prior to delivery or installation
  • Dispute resolution — objective evidence for contractor or client claims
  • Post-delivery checks on elements showing visible surface defects
  • Custom qualification and testing protocol design for new product types
Full Assessment Capability List
  • GPR scanning — reinforcement detection, rebar mapping, tendon duct and cladding tube location, post-fixture inclusion coring
  • Cover assessment — depth measurement, average cover, spatial cover maps, identification of cover discrepancies against specification
  • Compressive strength (MPa) — Schmidt hammer testing with statistical distribution of results across the element
  • Flaw detection — cavities, honeycombing, misruns, cold joints and internal cracking detected by GPR and ultrasonic testing
  • Crack profiling — depth and lateral extent of surface-connected cracks quantified non-destructively
  • Wall thickness measurement — ultrasonic pulse velocity for element thickness verification where direct access is limited to one face
  • Steel fibre distribution — clustering and segregation assessment in fibre-reinforced precast panels; uniform distribution verification
  • Segregation assessment — identification of aggregate and paste separation in precast products by ultrasonic velocity profiling
  • Bonding assessment — delamination detection at precast panel interfaces and composite layer boundaries
  • As-built audit — measured dimensions, rebar positions and cover depths compared against as-designed drawings; non-conformances documented
  • Corrosion mapping — half-cell potential and resistivity surveys on aged precast elements for concrete cancer assessment

Clear, Auditable
Reporting

All QA/QC results are presented in structured reports tailored to the testing application — whether a single hold-point inspection, a full batch audit or an ongoing quality programme. Reports are formatted to support project documentation, certifier review and client handover, and can be integrated directly with your production quality management system.

3D Imaging
Volumetric Representation

Reinforced concrete elements screened and presented as volumetric 3D GPR/UT models — spatial distribution of rebar, ducts, voids and defects visible in a single representation.

2D / 3D Sections
GPR & Ultrasonic Imaging

High-resolution processed radargrams and ultrasonic B-scan / C-scan images — detailed cross-sections and plan-view depth slices of internal structure, defects and reinforcement.

Strength Data
MPa Statistics

Statistically summarised compressive strength results — averages, minimums, maximums and spatial distribution across the element, with non-conformance zones clearly highlighted.

Custom Reports
QMS-Compatible Output

Defect maps, as-built conformance summaries, hold-point inspection records and accept/reject recommendations — structured to integrate with your project or production QMS documentation.
